Professor Shih-Hwa Chiou has made significant contributions to regenerative medicine, cancer stem cell research, and iPSC technology, advancing both scientific understanding and clinical applications. His work spans three major research directions: (1) the development of high-quality iPSCs using a novel Parp1-based non-viral reprogramming platform, which enhances safety by replacing traditional oncogenic factors such as c-Myc and Klf-4, reducing tumorigenic risks and enabling safer clinical use; (2) cancer stem cell research, focusing on identifying molecular mechanisms that drive tumorigenesis and developing targeted therapies to improve treatment efficacy; and (3) regenerative medicine innovations, including automated cell screening systems for retinal therapies and the integration of iPSC-derived 3D retinal tissues with electronic eye technology to restore vision in patients with photoreceptor defects. His groundbreaking research has been recognized in prestigious journals and secured international patents, positioning Taiwan as a global leader in regenerative medicine and biotechnology. To foster international collaboration and nurture future scientists, this program offers scholarships of at least two months and access to on-campus dormitories (self-funded). Students should have English communication skills and preferably a background in medicine, life sciences, or pharmacy at the undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate levels. This initiative provides a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge research, contributing to advancements in regenerative medicine, iPSCs, and cancer stem cell therapies.
