This internship research project aims to enhance the biocompatibility of pig bone grafts through the introduction of magnesium oxide (MgO) ions via Hydrothermal treatment into their surface, so enabling their utilization in guided bone regeneration dental operations. The utilization of autologous bone tissue for guided bone regeneration (GBR) necessitates the removal of healthy tissue from the donor site; sometimes leading to drawbacks like increase in morbidity, insufficient intraoral graft volume, or extraoral sites with higher volume at the expense of increasing expenditures for the patient. Porcine bone graft can help to avoid these drawbacks by having key physical and chemical properties required for GBR procedures. Magnesium (Mg) has garnered significant attention as a groundbreaking metallic element for its potential utilization in orthopedic contexts, primarily attributable to its inherent biodegradability, biocompatibility, osteoconductive characteristics and can help stimulate pre-osteoblast osteogenic differentiation. To this end, we are seeking partnerships with overseas dental and oral health departments, biomedical and bioengineering programs, as well as students with relevant experience who are at the university level or higher for internships. In terms of execution, the project will offer a three-month professional training course covering guided bone regeneration, dental clinical techniques, and data analysis. There will be opportunities to collaborate with domestic laboratories, providing students with a six-month internship focused on laboratory technique testing and participation in vitro and in vivo. This project elevate the level of dental research in Taiwan, also provide international students and the industrial sector with valuable experience and collaborative opportunities. Through the integration of professional courses and internship programs, we hope these students will continue their advanced studies in Taiwan upon completing their internships, thereby contributing to Taiwan's biomedical industry.
