Our research work is focused on the investigation of the neurobiology of bipolar disorder. Our current research projects aim to characterize the relationship between the immune-inflammatory status, white matter structure, neurotransmitter signaling, the functional configuration of intrinsic brain activity, and the psychopathology of bipolar disorder, by using neuroimaging and other laboratory techniques. The students can be involved in any aspects of the research work, including the recruitment of subjects and analyzing data.
These projects provide an ideal opportunity for the students to receive training in scientific methodology, data acquisition, and data analysis, as well as to gain insight into how to make conceptual inferences from empirical data. The students will actively take part in the weekly lab meetings and discussions on the project progress, potential issues, and their solutions. Moreover, the students will join my weekly classes on Psychiatric Neuroscience, which aim to provide the basis for the relationship of brain activity with phenomenal experience and behavior in psychiatric conditions. Finally, the students can be involved in various GIMBC activities, including weekly seminars and other courses on brain physiology, behavior, and consciousness in humans and animals.
