1. Introduction
Green energy has received much attention over the past several decades because it plays a vital role in achieving sustainability. International collaboration and talent cultivation are essential to reach these targets to achieve carbon-neutral, net zero, and even carbon-negative technologies. This project plans to invite 3-4 students for internships at the Green Energy and Fuel Laboratory (GENFUEL) in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan. Candidates are invited to join GENFUEL in Taiwan before December 31st, 2024, for a 4 to 6-month exchange program.
2. Supports
Each participant will receive a monthly stipend of NT$15,000 (approximately USD 500), totaling NT$60,000 to NT$90,000 (approximately USD 2000 to 3000) for the entire duration. Please be advised that the funding does not cover round-trip airfare. Participants will be accommodated in the student dormitories of National Cheng Kung University during their stay. TEEP project funds will cover all the accommodation fees.
3. Duty
(1) Participate in both regular and ad-hoc academic discussion meetings of the GENFUEL.
(2) Engage in research project work at GENFUEL.
(3) Assist in conducting research experiments, computational simulations, result analysis, and part of the work related to research publication.
4. The prospective research areas
(1) Biomass torrefaction for biochar production.
(2) Biochar applications for solid biofuel, environmental remediation, and pollution mitigation.
(3) Biomass thermodegradation mechanism investigated by advanced instruments. Depending on the timing of their stay, students may have the opportunity to engage in academic conferences, cross-team research, and other related activities in Taiwan.
5. Other requirements
(1) Proficient in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English.
(2) Bachelor's degree (or studying) in engineering or science-related fields, with a preference for energy engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, and/or environmental engineering.
(3) Familiarity with document processing, engineering drawing, and scientific data processing software.
(4) Possess a strong motivation for learning and acquiring knowledge.
(5) Good physical and mental health, with no known chronic illnesses or conditions that may affect academic pursuits.
(6) Free from substance abuse, alcoholism, gambling, or other detrimental habits.
