The application of smart technology to address issues related to an aging society is globally recognized. Established in 2003, Yuan Ze University’s Gerontechnolgy Research Center (GRC) has been a pioneer in the field in Taiwan. GRC spun off the start-up Seda GTech in 2017, which marked the transition from research to industrial applications. Seda GTech is dedicated to applying smart technology to achieve precision aged care and has developed three mature products: smart mattresses, home telehealth packages, and interactive exercise gaming floor mats. The “Innovative Smart Care Product Design and Development” project involves industry-academia collaboration for talent cultivation. It plans to recruit students for two terms, with four students per term for six months each. Participating students will spend one day per week on campus attending relevant courses, such as “Gerontechnology” and “Innovative Product Development,” as well as engaging in visits and workshops organized by the university’s Global Affairs Office. The remaining four days will be spent interning at Seda GTech, where professional engineers will guide them in actively participating in designing, developing, and field testing innovative smart care products.
