The goal of this internship program is to inspire the trainee with the concept of improving energy storage system performance through materials research and engineering. The internship is designed to proceed for a duration of 3 to 6 months, and the training will be project-oriented with intermediate milestones and final deliverables. As an example, the project entitled “Rational Flow Design of Modular Soluble Lead Flow Battery” contains the following training sections: (1) Understand the fundamentals of electrochemistry; (2) Familiar with the working principle and development of soluble lead flow battery (SLFB); (3) Review the computational work and cell design published on SLFBs; (4) Learn basics on how to draw 3D models with engineering drawing software; (5) Learn fluid flow simulation with FEM software package such as COMSOL; (6) Learn to couple flow field with electrochemistry in COMSOL for Multiphysics simulation; (7) Propose rational design of modular SLFB cells and draw it with engineering drawing software; (8) Simulate the flow-electrochemical effects of the designed modular SLFBs with FEM software; (9) Complete the final report with simulation results and suggested cell design. A mentor such as a postdoctoral researcher or a senior graduate student will be assigned to guide the trainee over the course of the internship. The principal investor of the group will hold regular meetings with the trainee to facilitate the training process. Through the project-oriented internship training, we hope to inspire students to join our group and work on energy materials research. The intern-student is expected to assimilate the research culture as well as research experience in the energy engineering field. In addition, the intern-student will be supported by a stipend of approximately 15,000 NTD/month during the internship. Due to limited resources, Students interested in pursuing master or PhD degree in our group are encouraged to apply for this internship.
