The problems of wastewater and carbon emissions have become increasingly severe, and in recent years, the policies of the Taiwan government, with the specification of achieving net zero emissions by 2050, and the elevation of the Taiwan Environmental Protection Administration, have demonstrated the seriousness of environmental concerns. Wastewater treatment is of high importance for Taiwan, a nation known for its semiconductor industry, as a substantial amount of wastewater is generated in the process of semiconductor wafer fabrication. In addressing this issue, membrane separation technology emerges as a prominent, effective, and environmentally friendly green solution capable of treating both industrial and domestic wastewater. This technology allows for the recycling and reuse of water resources within factories, ultimately achieving net zero emissions. This project specifically focuses on the treatment of wastewater containing solvent-water solutions using pervaporation membranes. The pervaporation membrane will incorporate a nanomaterial called Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) to modify the interlayer layer of Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) membranes, resulting in the development of novel PA-MOF/PAN membranes. It is expected that the separation performance of the membranes will be enhanced by controlling the functional groups of MOF. The project will be divided into three phases. The first phase will primarily concentrate on the physical and chemical characterization of MOF, modified MOF, and PA-MOF/PAN membranes to assess whether the modification of membranes has been successfully achieved. The second phase's goal is to evaluate the effectiveness of PA-MOF/PAN membranes in treating industrial and domestic wastewater through pervaporation separation test. Simultaneously, the optimal performance of PA-MOF/PAN membranes will be explored. In the third phase, further enhancement of the pervaporation efficiency will be pursued through the control of MOF functional groups.
