Aim: Nowadays, robotics and machine learning are defining the frontiers of innovation. Our program intends to intensively engage select internship students in the robotics and Reinforcement Learning (RL) field, which has recent impressive progress. We place a heightened emphasis on the pivotal 'Sim-to-Real' challenge inherent in self-balancing robot learning. Under the Taiwan Experience Education Program (TEEP), our initiative is purposefully designed to fuse deep theoretical ability with real-world implementation, aiming to cultivate the next generation of global robotic leaders. Benefits: 1. Deep Dive into Sim-to-Real: Participants will face directly the challenges of transferring RL and deep RL strategies from simulations to real robots. 2. Industry Relevance: With the growth of robotics in global industries, mastering the Sim-to-Real transition will make these interns valuable assets to future tech sectors worldwide. 3. Innovative Solutions: The program will prepare students with the understanding to drive cutting-edge innovations in the world of robotics. 4. Cultural Exchange: Interns will gain invaluable cultural insights, enriching their global perspective in addition to their technical learnings. Collaboration Target: The primary objective of this program is to cultivate expertise and link domestic robotics technology with global academic studies. We aim to create an environment where participants can engage in the practical aspects of technological advancements while gaining insights from international education. Execution of TEEP Internship: The program is structured into two primary phases: i) training: First three-month intensive program that involves collaboration in our laboratory in Taiwan by learning details of RL, DRL, dynamics, and kinematics of robots, simulation strategies, and deep dive into the sim-to-real challenge. There will be short lectures, meetings, and some assignments by our senior graduate students and our direct supervision, and ii) implementing algorithms: The second three-month internship mostly focuses on working on robots and for real-world transferring directly. Students will work on our advanced, two-wheeled, and humanoid robots (Diablo, Darwin-Op2, and Op3), focusing specifically on the Sim-to-Real challenge. Arrangement Plan of Internship: 1. Training Modules: Progressive modules starting with RL basics and concluding in the Sim-to-Real challenge. 2. Mentoring: Pairing students with our Ph.D. and senior master students who are experts for robot development and have extensive robot control experience. 3. Assessments: Periodic and direct evaluations to ensure knowledge retention and application. Depending your application, the duration will vary from 6 to 12 months. You will get approximately 15,000 NTD per month.
