Attention plays an important role in children’s learning based on executive function, emotional regulation and learning performance, and even affects family relationships, peer interactions and social interactions at school deeply. According to the data, people are diagnosed as Attention-Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (called ADHD) about 5-12% chance in the world, and about 5% in Taiwan (Ministry of health and welfare, 2015). Attention affects children's cognitive performance, such as reading and math skills. Some children with special needs are also affected by attention deficits, such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) children. When children can't pay attention to details and are easy to be distracted by external stimulation, they do not have a good family and school relationships and have long-term obstacles for learning performances. For attention training and improvement, it is necessary to cooperate among children, parents and school teachers. A friendly, comprehensive, professional and continuous support system is very beneficial for ADHD / ASD children, busy parents and novel teachers. The present project will focus on children’s attention on learning: Neuro-physio-behavioral data in children with typical development and special needs. Our team will focus on two aspects, cognitive neuroscience evidence and behavioral assessment. The cognitive neuroscience evidence will include brain wave, eye movement, myoelectric potential, skin electrical response, etc. Behavioral assessment will include 1. Children executive function tasks (attention control/inhibition tasks, cognitive flexibility tasks, and goal setting tasks); 2. Early childhood Assessment (Achenbach System of Empirically Based Assessment (ASEBA), Scale for Assessing Emotional Disturbance (SAED); 3. Child Attention Performance Evaluation (The Attention Scale for Elementary School Children (ASESC), Conners Continuous Performance Test 3, Conners CPT3). If you are interested in child development or children with special needs (ADHD or ASD), welcome to join our team.
