TEEP Program Call for Applications: 2026 Sustainable Circular Economy & Sludge Valorization

I. Program Overview

Hosted by the Department of Environmental Engineering at Kun Shan University (KSU), this program offers international students a unique opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research on waste-to-resource recovery. Participants will focus on transforming organic sludge into high-value amino acid liquid fertilizers using advanced homogenization and alkaline hydrolysis techniques.

II. Program Timeline

Duration: July 1, 2026 – October 30, 2026 (4 Months)

Location: Kun Shan University, Tainan, Taiwan.

III. Financial Support & Responsibilities

Monthly Scholarship: Successful applicants will receive a stipend of NTD 18,000 per month.

Student Responsibilities: Please note that the following expenses are not covered by the program and must be borne by the student:

Airfare: Round-trip international flight tickets.

Insurance: Comprehensive medical and travel insurance.

Accommodation: Monthly dormitory rent (approx. NTD 4,956).

Living Expenses: Daily meals, local transportation, and personal sundries.

IV. Accommodation & Dining

Housing: Guaranteed placement in modern Double Rooms on campus.

Dining: The university campus and surrounding area feature a variety of restaurants with flavors catering to Southeast Asian tastes (e.g., Vietnamese and Philippine-friendly cuisines), ensuring students can easily adjust to their new environment.

V. Research Focus

Participants will be assigned to specialized tracks:

Sludge Valorization: Rapid alkaline hydrolysis and cell disruption techniques.

Resource Recovery: Extraction and formulation of high-value amino acid fertilizers.

VI. Eligibility

Undergraduate (Junior/Senior) or Graduate students from the Philippines or Vietnam.

Background in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Biotechnology.

    All international participants are responsible for their own financial arrangements regarding the following items. Please note that while a monthly stipend of NTD 18,000 is provided by the program, it is intended to assist with daily costs and does not cover pre-arrival expenses.

    1. Application and Tuition Fees:
    There is no application fee or tuition fee for participating in this research program at Kun Shan University.

    2. Accommodation:
    Participants are required to pay for their own housing. The monthly rent for a double room in the North Court (Bei-Yuan) Dormitory is approximately NTD 4,956. This amount should be paid on a monthly basis.

    3. Airfare and Visa Fees:
    Students must bear the full cost of their round-trip international airfare from their home country to Taiwan. Additionally, all costs related to the Republic of China (Taiwan) visa application, including processing fees and travel to the embassy or representative office, are the student’s responsibility.

    4. Insurance:
    Participants must pay for their own comprehensive medical and accident insurance. Proof of insurance valid for the entire four-month duration of the stay in Taiwan is mandatory.

    5. Daily Living Expenses:
    All daily living costs, including meals, local transportation, and personal items, are to be covered by the student. The campus offers various dining options catering to Southeast Asian tastes to help students manage their food budget effectively.

    6. Initial Funding Notice:
    Participants are strongly advised to bring sufficient funds to cover their first month of expenses, including the dormitory deposit/rent and insurance, as the first stipend payment may take a few weeks to process after arrival.
