Program Description

This program focuses on the study of environmental and genetic determinants of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), integrating environmental health, epidemiology, and data science. It aims to establish an international research and training platform in collaboration with universities and public health institutions in Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam).

Participants will engage in a combination of academic training and hands-on research. The program includes lectures on environmental exposure assessment, epidemiological study design, and health big data analysis, as well as practical experience in air pollution monitoring, questionnaire surveys, and health data analysis. Students will complete a final presentation of their research outcomes.

Program Duration

The program is expected to run for at least 8 weeks, including online preparation and on-site training. (Longer participation up to 6 months is preferred.)

Scholarship and Fees

Participants may receive a monthly stipend and insurance support in accordance with TEEP regulations.

Monthly Stipend: Participants will receive NT$20,000 per month to cover living expenses and housing in Taiwan.

Participants are responsible for personal expenses, including accommodation, meals, and local transportation.

There is no application or tuition fee for the program.

However:

Participants may be required to register as visiting students and pay related administrative fees (50% discounted rate for TEEP participants).

Accommodation

On-campus dormitory is not provided. Participants must arrange their own accommodation. Participants must arrange off-campus housing independently using their stipend.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants should:

Be university students (undergraduate or above) in medicine, public health, biomedical sciences, or related fields

Have a strong interest in environmental health, epidemiology, or data analysis

Possess basic English communication skills

Be motivated to participate in international research collaboration

Additional Notes

Participants are not allowed to engage in part-time work during the program.

Health insurance covering the entire stay in Taiwan is required prior to arrival.

Applicants with no prior TEEP experience are preferred.

  • Fee: Participants who currently hold student status in their home countries are required to apply as visiting students at National Sun Yat-sen University and pay the relevant administrative fees in accordance with university regulations.

    Starting from January 1, 2026, TEEP participants are also required to pay applicable fees. The visiting student administrative fee will be calculated based on the duration of stay in Taiwan, with TEEP participants eligible for a 50% discounted rate.

    Please note that on-campus dormitory accommodation is not provided for both visiting students and TEEP participants. Participants are required to arrange their own accommodation in advance.
