Under the Taiwan Experience Education Program (TEEP), funded by the Ministry of Education (MOE), Taiwan, this project aims to cultivate globally minded young researchers in the fields of cancer biology, pharmacology, and drug discovery. Hosted by Professor Chun-Han Chen at the Department of Pharmacology, School of Medicine, Taipei Medical University (TMU), the program provides an immersive research and training experience focusing on molecular mechanisms of anticancer agents and the development of innovative therapeutic strategies, particularly for bladder cancer. The primary objective of this TEEP initiative is to attract outstanding undergraduate and master’s students majoring in life sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacy, or biotechnology. The program welcomes students who demonstrate strong motivation, research aptitude, and an interest in translational cancer research. During this period, participants will receive comprehensive laboratory training, engage in independent mini-projects, and participate in academic exchange activities designed to broaden their scientific and cultural perspectives. The execution plan consists of three major components: (1) Training Course: The first phase provides intensive instruction in fundamental laboratory techniques in molecular and cellular biology, including gene expression assays, protein analysis, and cell viability or migration tests. (2) Internship Research: After the initial training, interns will join ongoing research projects investigating the anticancer mechanisms of natural products and small-molecule drugs. Typical laboratory activities include MTT and wound-healing assays, transwell migration studies, Western blotting, qPCR, immunofluorescence staining, and basic bioinformatics using RNA-sequencing datasets. (3) Presentation and Evaluation: At the conclusion of the internship, each participant will submit a written report and deliver an oral presentation summarizing their research findings to the host laboratory. The expected outcomes of this program are to: (1) enhance international students’ research capability and technical proficiency; (2) promote Taiwan’s visibility as a hub for biomedical education and innovation; (3) strengthen TMU’s international research network; and (4) nurture future scientific leaders with global perspectives. Participants will gain hands-on experience in molecular pharmacology, develop critical thinking and scientific communication skills, and build long-term academic connections across countries.
