This project aims to transform dredged sediments, industrial by-products (e.g., steel slag, laboratory waste glass), and marine waste (e.g., oyster shells, fish bones) into safe, sustainable construction materials, advancing circular economy goals, reducing environmental risks, and promoting low-carbon infrastructure. This program will provide comprehensive training in waste recycling technologies, including: (1) Physical treatments: dewatering, sieving, and separation to reduce volume and isolate usable fractions; (2) Chemical stabilization: immobilization of toxic metals using additives like lime or cement, or activation for use in geopolymer synthesis; (3) Thermal treatments: pyrolysis and sintering to destroy contaminants and produce stable, high-performance materials; (4) Product life cycle assessment. Master's students in environmental engineering, marine science, and related fields are eligible to participate in this 5 to 6-month program, primarily but not limited to, NKUST partner universities from Southeast Asian countries, including the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam. The internship students can receive a monthly stipend of 15,000 NTD. School dormitories will be arranged for accommodation.
