Climate change has led to rising temperatures, shifting precipitation patterns, and an increasing frequency of extreme weather events, resulting in severe environmental and societal impacts. These include water scarcity, urban flooding, ecosystem disruptions, and heightened risks to energy security. Addressing these challenges requires multifaceted strategies to reduce carbon emissions, manage water resources, and enhance disaster resilience. This internship program, hosted by the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at National Chung Cheng University, provides international students with hands-on research experience in numerical simulation technologies that support climate adaptation and mitigation. The program focuses on four key areas: 1. Advancing green energy (e.g., geothermal energy) to promote sustainable energy solutions. 2. Reducing atmospheric CO₂ through geological sequestration as part of global carbon mitigation strategies. 3. Managing water resources to ensure freshwater availability, especially during droughts. 4. Enhancing urban flood mitigation by improving resilience to extreme rainfall and flooding events. Numerical simulation plays a crucial role in analyzing complex environmental processes, optimizing resource use, and planning for climate resilience. This technology is universally applicable and particularly beneficial for developing countries, which often face barriers in adopting advanced sustainability solutions. Through this program, students will gain practical skills in cutting-edge simulation techniques, contribute to ongoing research, and collaborate with experts in the field. Scholarship and Financial Support • Scholarship: Up to NTD 15,000 per month per person. Duration and Schedule • The internship duration is at least 2 months and up to 6 months. • Participants will engage in research projects, attend seminars, and collaborate with faculty and students during their stay. Participation Requirements • Applicants must have a degree in earth sciences or a related field. • English communication skills are required to engage in research discussions and presentations. • Participants should demonstrate strong academic interest in numerical simulation and climate-related research. Accommodation and Living Arrangements • On-campus dormitory accommodation is available at a discounted rate, subject to availability. • Participants are responsible for dormitory fees, utility deposits, and insurance. • Health insurance is mandatory and must be arranged by the applicant. This program offers a valuable opportunity to gain international research experience, collaborate with experts in the field, and contribute to climate science and sustainability. We look forward to welcoming talented students from around the world!
