Global extreme weather and climate events can be tracked by applying our newly developed objective search algorithm to long-term observation and climate simulation. The proposed work will focus on constructing an event data archive to document globally all the historical weather and climate extreme events, including the event duration, mean spatial extent, mean intensity, and total integrated severity. The concurrent weather systems and environmental conditions associated with the extreme events will also be stored with event records. The downloadable data archive and global extreme weather and climate event monitoring website will be built to facilitate the service to the interests in applying the information to impact and adaptation study in the public health, agriculture, energy, and other related sectors. Preferred background of student candidates: • Gradiate or Senior year students with good English skills are welcome. • Strong knowledge/experience in computer (linux system) is essential. • Good programming skills (python, C/Fortran, R, NCL, etc.) and experiences in constructing website and database would be a plus. The stipend during the research period would be NT$15,000 per month, with the possibility of increasing it with funding availability. It is possible to apply for a university dormitory during the internship period. The expected duration for the internship is between 3-6 months.
