Our lab focuses on three interconnected fields: neural regeneration, neurodegeneration, and brain tumors, all linked through the critical role of neural stem cells. These stem cells possess remarkable self-renewal and multipotency, allowing them to differentiate into neurons, astrocytes, and oligodendrocytes. The signaling pathways that regulate their survival, proliferation, differentiation, and migration are essential not only for neural development but also for neural repair following injury or disease. However, in neurodegenerative disorders and brain tumors, these pathways are often disrupted, hindering neural regeneration and contributing to disease progression. We aim to uncover the molecular mechanisms governing the regulation of neural stem cells in both normal and diseased states. By identifying novel regulators of these pathways, we hope to discover therapeutic targets that can enhance neural repair through regeneration while offering new avenues for preventing or treating neurodegenerative diseases and brain tumors. We invite passionate and motivated students to join us in investigating these vital processes. In our lab, students will work with cutting-edge techniques in molecular biology, neuroscience, and cancer research, contributing to innovative therapeutic strategies for some of the most pressing neurological challenges.
