Porous materials are of scientific and technological interest, and have in many ways revolutionized our society. Due to their ability to interact with atoms, ions, and molecules not only at their surfaces, but throughout the bulk of the material, porous solids possess features far superior to those conventional materials. The goal of our research group is to synthesize novel functional porous materials based on the rational design of organic building blocks. We study various blooming porous materials including metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs). These materials are featured of self-assembly, high crystallinity, modularity, and porosity. They are very promising for applications such as gas storage and separation, molecular recognition, catalysis, sensing, and drug delivery. Due to the increasing world population and energy demand, we focus on the design of advanced porous materials for sustainable and renewable energy storage. Student interns in our group will receive broad training on synthetic chemistry, coordination chemistry, material synthesis and characterization, and development of substantial applications. A minimum internship duration of 3 months is required. Applicants must have a background in chemistry or other related fields and be fluent in English. Monthly stipiend will be given to cover the basic cost of living and accommodation.
