Despite advancements in medical care, patient mortality rates remain difficult to improve. Even if patients survive, irreversible lung damage often leads to death due to pulmonary fibrosis. The fatal outcome of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) stems from a severe inflammatory response during infection, causing excessive early-stage pro-inflammatory cytokine release. This results in massive neutrophil accumulation in the alveoli, which further releases inflammatory mediators, damaging lung epithelial cells and vascular endothelial cells, ultimately impairing gas exchange and leading to fatal hypoxia. This project aims to develop 2-pyridone derivatives as clinical therapeutics to mitigate the severity of ARDS triggered by critical illnesses, enhance survival rates, and suppress lung inflammation-induced fibrosis. We welcome interested interns to participate in the development and testing of related drugs.
Interns joining our team will:
☑ Evaluate the anti-inflammatory effects of test compounds.
☑ Conduct preclinical animal studies.
☑ Gain hands-on experience in cell and animal experiments, as well as preclinical drug bioassays.
☑ Develop scientific writing and oral presentation skills.
Applicants must:
☑ Demonstrate outstanding academic and research performance, with a strong interest in studying in Taiwan.
☑ Possess sufficient English communication skills.
