Since the successful synthesis of graphene, probing for various potential 2D materials has gained massive research interests. Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4), boron nitride, transition metal dichalcogenides and oxynitrides have received the limelight of research in the recent time owing to their unique physical and electronic properties, among the other carbonaceous 2D materials (graphene, GO, r-GO). They can be applied for a wide range of applications such as sensors, super-capacitors, electro-catalysis etc. But all 2D materials suffer from the disadvantage of restacking of the layers that deteriorates the material property to a great extent. Porous, hierarchical structured morphology can limit the restacking of the 2D layers and can also provide high active surface area. Also, combining the mesoporous 2D layered material with other lower dimensional nanomaterials might enhance the composite property to serve the desired application. Hierarchical, porous 2D material composites can be synthesized using different methods such as hydrothermal synthesis, CVD etc. and the synthesis parameters can be controlled to obtain the desired morphology and property. The structural, morphological, electronic and thermal properties of the prepared materials can be assessed using different characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy (XPS), infrared spectroscopy, UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), BET-N2 adsorption/desorption isotherms. The prepared and characterized materials will be studied for their application as sensors and super-capacitors. The prepared nanomaterial composite can also be tested for its applicability in other potential and practical applications such as HER, based on the results obtained and research findings.
