The laboratory of marine biotechnology (LMB) in the Department of Biological Science and Technology, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) is equipped with advanced equipment and professional technical courses, providing theoretical and practical training for students pursuing master's or doctoral degrees. This program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the field, covering topics such as microbial application technology, feed development, aquaculture science and sustainable development of aquaculture. The program will train students in screening techniques of potential probiotics, fermentation technology and development of functional feeds or biologics. The application of microbial biologics can reduce the use of antibiotics and chemical drugs in aquaculture and provide benefits to health of aquatic animals, thereby contributing the sustainability of the industry. LMB is equipped with pilot-scale bioreactors and pilot plant for feed production. Students participated in this program will gain hands-on experience in scale up of microbial fermentation and aquafeed processing technology. Additionally, LMB has an aquatic animal facility, which was certified by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) International, providing practice field for rearing zebrafish model organisms and various freshwater aquaculture species. Through feeding trials, students will learn skills for validating the efficacy of functional feeds of microbial biologics, allowing them to apply academic knowledge in aquaculture industry.

Students participated in this program will collaborate with local students in teams, engaging in professional literature reviews, experimental design and execution, data collection, and analysis. This experience for bilateral students not only enhances professional knowledge but also improves English and Chinese language level, fostering cross-cultural communication and collaboration for mutual benefit. This program is specifically designed to enhance students' knowledge and skills of aquatic biotechnology. We firmly believe that that program will provide the students with the necessary resources for pursing success in this field. Our lab is highly committed to paper writing and publishing research papers, contributing our findings and knowledge to the aquaculture industry. If you are pursing further academic advance, we welcome you to join our laboratory, and it will be an ideal choice for your academic futures.
