Global food loss and waste has raised significant issue due to the emission of carbon dioxide and methane gas which are directly emitted into the atmosphere which has major factor that lead to several health and environmental problems. The estimated food waste in Taiwan is about 16.5 million tons disposed every year and the current food waste management involve only recycling and incineration. Food waste to energy should be a generational opportunity in Taiwan to achieve sustainability industrialization. The process of anaerobic digestion by microalgae dark fermentation of these organic wastes can convert them into biogas (biohydrogen in specific) which can generate electricity and thermal energy. While, the conversion of organic solid waste from food waste can transform into biochar, biofertilizer and biocompost that can be reclaimed for Taiwan industry. This research proposal aims to evaluate the cradle-to-gate food waste management through microalgae biorefinery
