Multiple drug resistance (MDR) is a major issue to attenuate the effectiveness of chemotherapy to many human malignancies. There is an urgent need to develop a novel therapeutic strategy for the cancer patient with MDR. Our laboratory publications demonstrated that abnormal upregulation of Wnt5A signaling pathway was shown to contribute to regulating the drug-resistance in the MDR cell lines, In addition, the expression level of HGF and its downstream genes and HGF receptor (c-MET) were upregulated in two multidrug-resistant cancer cell lines. Together, those data suggested that VEGF/VEGFR and HGF/c-MET signaling plays an important role in MDR cancer cells. The main objectives of this study is to test whether targeting c-MET/VEGFR2 as a therapeutic approach to treatment of multidrug-resistance cancer cells. Joining our program offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Laboratory with basic experiments essential for characterizing stem cells. This includes learning stem cell culture, conducting classical western blotting, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, and animal model.
