Overview: In this project, the intern will participate the design and development of lightweight automotive components, including wheels, brake disc and caliper, and chassis components. Possible materials used to manufacture the products in this project may be aluminum alloy, magnesium alloy, or carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP). During the design stage, finite element analysis (FEA) will be conducted to assess the safety performance and endurance to ensure the product design meets the design requirement. The intern will be familiar with engineering specifications specified by automotive manufacturers and be able to conduct FEA on several products. Optimization and tuning design of the products will be implemented based on the FEA results until all analyses results meet the criteria specified by the specifications. After design stage, the intern will join the manufacturing processes to thoroughly understand the process flow of manufacturing a new lightweight automotive component. Once the prototype is manufactured, the intern will take part in the DV (design verification) test to validate the product design.
