1. Project Goals and Expected Outcomes: Research in geriatrics is an urgent direction that requires effort in today's society and is something everyone must face in their lifetime. Age-related diseases include all chronic diseases, such as neurodegenerative diseases, sarcopenia, and even the early stages of cancer. This project aims to conduct research on the mechanisms, biomarkers, and therapeutic targets of age-related diseases through collaborative efforts of various talents. The goal is to identify indicators for predicting age-related diseases, tracking the aging process, and finding key factors for treating age-related diseases. It is expected to help the younger generation understand the importance of geriatric research and encourage early involvement in related fields. Additionally, when participants return to their home countries or engage in international exchanges, they can assist in becoming a bridge for international collaboration and exchange opportunities between our school and other countries.
2. Main Recruitment Source Countries: Southeast Asian countries (Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, India, etc.). Previous experiences have shown that these countries generally have a limited understanding of the importance of geriatrics. Through recruitment and collaborative research, young students can learn that preventing aging can effectively reduce the occurrence of most chronic diseases.
3. Research Duration: The project is expected to recruit students for a 2-6 month research period in 2025.
4. Project Execution Method:
• 1st month: Two weeks of basic laboratory training followed by two weeks of mouse animal model operation training.
• 2nd month: Learning to structure a research project.
• 3rd-6th months: Executing the research project and completing a written report. The laboratory collaborates with Taiwanese industry companies for related experimental research and testing, and also works with physicians from our school's medical system. Participants can simultaneously learn the cooperation methods between basic research, industry, and clinical practice.
5. Funding Application Amount and Usage: The project plans to recruit 5 students (undergraduate or master's students, either currently enrolled or graduates) for a 2-6 months research period. The expected student stipend is 15,000 NTD per month, with additional miscellaneous funds reserved for students' extra needs.
