This is a 6-month project aiming to develop wavelength-tunable lasers with structural patterns by photo-aligned liquid crystals (LCs). The developed lasers are expected to bring more tunable functions, such as transverse modes and optical angular momenta (OAM), into integrated photonic circuits.

We are actively seeking enthusiastic and motivated interns to join our Soft Matter Photonics Laboratory in National Dong Hwa University, which is located in the eastern Taiwan. This is a unique opportunity for the participant to gain in-depth insights into the field of optical technology, participating in cutting-edge projects such as novel liquid crystal laser development, light-triggered actuators, tunable optical devices, and more. The participant will get involved in sample preparation through advanced fabrication skills for liquid crystal/polymer mixtures, such as patterned photo-alignment and two-photon polymerization direct laser writing (2PP-DLW), and gain experience from building various optical setups such as holographic imaging and micro-photoluminescence (micro-PL). The applicant is expected to collaborate with the team, share experiment progress, and provide insights and suggestions.

Requirements:
1. Currently enrolled in a relevant academic program, especially welcoming graduate or post-graduate students majoring in (optoelectronic), physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, or related disciplines.
2. Strong interest in the field of photonics, demonstrating a proactive attitude towards learning and participating in experimental activities.
3. Basic laboratory skills and a collaborative team spirit are essential.
4. Proficient in English communication.
5. Undergraduate applicants will not be considered unless they exhibit excellence and expertise in liquid crystal optics, lasers, automatic controls, or numerical simulations.
6. A minimum duration of three months.

Stipend: This program offers NTD 15,000 per month (the internship and accommodation expenses are included). If you are interested in this internship, please prepare the following document for Dr. Jia-De Lin.
1. Personal resume and curriculum vitae
2. Brief research plan to show your motivation, expectations, and the interested topic(s) in this program.

  • Field: Engineering
  • School: National Dong Hwa University
  • Organizer: Department of Opto-Electronic Engineering
  • Period of Apply: 2025/03/15-2025/04/30 (The application closing date may be brought forward due to limited quota.)
  • Term: 2025/06/01-2025/11/30 (total 26 weeks, project ends before 2025/12/31)
  • Fee: 1. Administrative fee: 800 NTD

    2. Short-term program fee: Fees are charged based on the duration of the student’s stay, at a rate of 1,000 NTD per 10 calendar days. If the stay is shorter than 10 days, the fee will still be calculated as if the stay were 10 days.
