SEARCH PROGRAMS

The main goal of this project is to "find semi-conductor nanocomposite materials suitable for green hydrogen generation in water electrolysis", hoping to obtain green hydrogen at a relatively low cost. Green hydrogen refers to the production of hydrogen by processes that do not emit carbon. One example is to use green electricity to produce hydrogen by electrolysis of water. Whether a material is suitable for the electrode in such a process is generally evaluated by its overpotential, which is the potential difference that exceeds the thermodynamic equilibrium theoretical value. This theoretical value of 1.23V is the minimum potential difference required for the production process to happen, while the excess part is called the overpotential. A larger overpotential requires more energy to produce the same amount of hydrogen, so the smaller it is the better results would become. At present, the material with the smallest overpotential is known to be platinum, which is not suitable for mass production due to its high price. In addition, those less expensive pure element materials generally have relatively high overpotential values, resulting in lower hydrogen production efficiencies. Therefore, finding suitable low cost composite materials is important in green hydrogen production.
