*Program-director background: Chien-Chih Lai received his Ph.D. degree in Photonics at the National Taiwan University in 2010, for which he was awarded the 1st Ph.D. Dissertation Medal (The Optical Engineering Society of Taiwan). He joined the National Dong Hwa University in 2012, and is currently joint full professor, both in Physics Department & Opto-Electronic Engineering Department. He has authored more than 100 high-impact papers and holds 4 major patents in the fields of fiber lasers and nanospectroscopy. *Scholarship Grants: To help students meet living expenses, this project provide scholarships to eligible TEEP participants, with a program-director-mandated stipend of 15,000 NTD per month. The stipend does not include the administrative fee, the short-term program fee, and the fee for dormitory. We focus on inter-disciplinary topics among physics, materials, and photonics. Our areas of current research encompass the broad fields of structure growth, plasmonics, and device fabrication, especially in the nano scale. Our team consists of undergraduate and graduate students, Ph.D. students, a postdoc, and a PI. We have weekly lab meetings and also have frequent discussions along with collaborators. Research topics include fiber design and fabrication, nanomaterial characterization, and photonics. The aim of this program is to extend the potential application from fiber to cell biomedics, especially to drug delivery that have never been performed before.
