TEEP: Taiwan’s Gateway to Global Learning, Innovation, and Talent Development

Launched by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education, the Taiwan Experience Education Program (TEEP) continues to draw strong international interest. This year, 55 universities and colleges are offering 514 programs across Taiwan’s priority industries and academic fields, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, medicine, biotechnology, and green sustainability. Through short-term research and hands-on training, students from around the world gain experience that takes them from campus laboratories to real-world industry projects. The program gives them direct insight into the strengths of Taiwan’s higher education, while also providing them with access to career opportunities and industry trends that will guide their future development.
Since its launch in 2015, TEEP has cultivated talent from more than 40 countries, with over 4,500 young people taking part to date. Through on-campus research, industry placements, and Mandarin learning opportunities lasting two to six months, participants work alongside Taiwanese faculty, students, and industry partners on research projects, technical training, and cultural exchange, building cross-border networks that continue long after their stay. Many have gone on to pursue degree programs in Taiwan, making TEEP an important pathway for developing, attracting, and retaining global talent.
TEEP projects highlight Taiwan’s strengths across science, technology, and healthcare. At National Formosa University, students collaborated with peers from the Czech Technical University to design and test solar-powered drones, achieving a joint endurance record of nearly 26 hours in flight. At National Ilan University, professors from Taiwan and Vietnam guided students in developing high-efficiency, rare-earth-free motor technology—an initiative that has since grown into cross-border teaching and encouraged Vietnamese students to pursue graduate studies in Taiwan. National Chung Cheng University has attracted young researchers from Europe and North America to work on metal 3D printing and smart manufacturing, while Kaohsiung Medical University has welcomed participants from Malaysia and India into clinical research and hospital teams, combining medical training with cross-cultural exchange. Other universities, such as National Taiwan University of Science and Technology and National Sun Yat-sen University, are advancing engineering and ocean research, further underscoring Taiwan’s global competitiveness across diverse fields.
Beyond individual projects, TEEP has grown into a strategic hub for learning, innovation, and talent development in Asia. By connecting international participants with Taiwan’s strengths in research, education, and industry, the program enables them to integrate classroom learning with real-world practice, explore new fields, and build lasting cross-cultural connections.
International participants have spoken highly of their time in Taiwan. “My research experience in Taiwan not only strengthened my professional skills but also introduced me to the country’s warmth and cultural diversity. It has inspired me to consider continuing my studies here,” said Patsakorn Watcharapongphan from Thailand, who joined a TEEP project at Tamkang University.
“Working with Taiwanese professors and classmates on a project gave me a clear sense of the strength of Taiwan’s research and education, and it will be an important asset for my future career,” shared Lucy from the Czech Republic, who participated in a program at National Dong Hwa University.
As TEEP continues to expand, the Ministry of Education is committed to strengthening Taiwan’s role as a hub for international learning and innovation. Each year, more opportunities are created for students worldwide to experience Taiwan’s research, industries, and cultural diversity. The next chapter of TEEP is still being written, and its future will be shaped by the experiences of those who join.
